The Netherlands win Eurovision 2019, human error leads to miscalculation of results

The dismissal of the Belarusian jury, which had leaked the votes from Belarus, caused an error in result calculation

May 23, 2019

Duncan Laurence of the Netherlands has brought its country the first Eurovision win in 44 years at the just-finished Europe’s number one music contest. His performance of ‘Arcade’ proved a full package: a touching song, brilliant vocals and a heartfelt staging. Italy’s Mahmoud made his country proud with the second spot in the Final, and Russia’s renowned singer Sergey Lazarev landed at #3. Not to mention North Macedonia’s best result in its history, becoming the favorite with the jurors.

However, last night, 4 days following the Eurovision Grand Final, the puzzling, illogical voting from Belarus jury was revisited and corrected. The so-called “human error” occurred after the dismissal of the Belarusian jury and annulment of their allocated points in the Final.

What happened is that the jury of Belarus had broken the rules by leaking their votes from the First Semi-Final, which can only be published after the announcement of the winner of Eurovision. Their scores to other countries were cancelled and the new points were aggregated from the average voting results of the four countries of the same voting block: Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Or… that’s how it should have been done.

Instead, what people saw on their screens were the reversed aggregated average figures, which meant zero points to the most voted countries and, surprisingly, 12 points to the less voted host country, Israel. Last night, the wrongly aggregated results were changed, making Sweden and Belarus celebrate their higher result, while Norway and the UK got a bit lower scores.

The UK’s Eurovision performance by Michael Rice with the song ‘Bigger Than Us’ came bottom scored anyway but with even less points: 11 instead of 16. This way the UK now lands on spot #25 (that means the one before the last) instead of #24. Belarus jumped one spot higher, switching places with Britain. Norway and Sweden have also exchanged positions, with Sweden now at #5 and Norway’s Keiino at #6. And even a bigger surprise, it also means North Macedonia’s Tamara Todevska won the jury vote over Sweden’s John Lundvik.

Fortunately, the Netherlands’ winner Duncan Laurence, as well as Italy’s #2, Russia’s #3 and Switzerland’s #4 remained unaffected, with just a couple of points alteration. Thanks to Laurence’s win, in 2020 we are all heading to the Netherlands for the next Eurovision contest!

BDSM industrial act from Iceland aims to climb high at Eurovision 2019

Iceland - LIVE - Hatari - Hatrið mun sigra - First Semi-Final - Eurovision

These shock-rockers from Scandinavia are now predicted to be Top 10 at Eurovision Grand Final

May 17, 2019

Hatari, a surprise act, who delivered a smashing performance in the First Semi-Final this past Tuesday, May 14, has left no one indifferent. Hatari is all in one: shocking screamed vocals, mindblowing sado-maso outfits, a guy banging his huge hammer on top of the evil machine and an impressive aggressive ending.

Hard to imagine? See the clip from the live performance of ‘Hatrið mun sigra’ below! And be sure to check out the photo gallery of Hatari’s live performance below.

It goes without mentioning that Hatari went through to the Final of Eurovision 2019, which will take place this Saturday, May 18 at 9PM CET. But how accurate is the forecast for Hatari to win the whole thing? For us, rock lovers, it might be an obvious choice, right? However, for the audience of 200.000 people watching pop-dominated Eurovision on their TV, laptop and smartphone screens, the performance and the song seem way more controversial.

The betting odds, though, still remain very favorable for Iceland, revolving around 7-8th position. Which position would you place Hatari’s ‘Hatrið mun sigra’ on? Is it your personal favorite Eurovision act this year? Let us know in the comments below!

Of course, all of you are wondering whether Evanescence are planning to record any new music at all this year. Although there is no approximate date as to when the band is hitting the studio, in an interview with 93.3 WMMR Rocks! last December, the band said there was no doubt they’d write new music and return to their roots.

“We all really wanna do it,” Lee promised. “And it’s not one of those things where it’s like, ‘Someday, maybe we’ll do something again.’”

If they do release a new album in 2019, it will be the first new record from Evanescence in 8 years. Their latest, self-titled album was released back in 2011.

MOTIONLESS IN WHITE get inspired by horrors in new music video ‘Disguise’

This is the band’s first video from the upcoming new album

April 30, 2019

Motionless In White are famous for their intense color-rich music videos, and they once again lived up to fans’ expectations in the music video for the title track from the new album, ‘Disguise’.

The song, which could be described as “the angrier Korn”, got proper visuals to accompany its dark emotional content. The official video for ‘Disguise’ is somewhere on the border between a monstrous horror film and the band’s signature fashionable performance scenes.

And just when you think the eyeless monster has nothing to do with the band takes, the monster man shows up behind Chris Motionless, breathing creepily into his neck.

After the songs from the new album, ‘Disguise’ and ‘Brand New Numb’ were released two weeks ago, we were eager to get a piece of visual fun as well. Watch the ‘Disguise’ video below and tell us if you had pictured the clip in the same or different way.

ANGELS & AIRWAVES post cryptic teaser, fans hope for new album soon

0

Something big from Angels & Airwaves is surely coming at the end of April…

April 25, 2019

Tom DeLonge & Co. like to build suspense around upcoming big announcements. His band Angels & Airwaves has posted a cryptic teaser on Twitter today, and all we can see is a blurry promo photo of the band with not-much-revealing caption, “Back before we were broken-hearted?”

But what draws attention instantly is the date in the teaser – 04-30, from which we can derive something big is expecting us on April 30. See the teaser for yourself below.

More: Former Blink-182 guitarist Tom DeLonge grooves to ANGELS & AIRWAVES’ “new shit”

Fans are now busy speculating what it the band could be hinting at. The prevailing opinion is either a single or an announcement of the whole new album on the horizon. Just about time! The band’s previous record came out back in 2014, The Dream Walker.

Previously, as pointed out by Alternative Press, frontman Tom DeLonge posted on Instagram that Angels & Airwaves were doing some recording sessions, so it’s quite safe to say April 30 will be all about the release of new music.

Also, a year ago, DeLonge asked fans in a teaser whether they liked the idea of Ilan Rubin, David Kennedy and Matt Wachter joining the forces for Angels & Airwaves’ next album. But now that the blurry promo photo only features three faces, the question naturally arrives: who’s in?

Whether it’s a new song or album announcement coming soon, fans are extremely excited to hear something new from Angels & Airwaves. What about you? And were you a fan of Angels & Airwaves’ previous album, The Dream Walker?

Passers-by on Pike Place Market in Seattle could hardly believe their eyes when they saw Dave Grohl busking…

April 22, 2019

A lot of musicians started their music path busking on the streets, and you pass them by almost every time walking down the cobbled streets of the Old Town or through the market rows. This past Saturday, on April 20, people of Seattle were walking as usual around Pike Place Market, paying little attention to street musicians when their jaws suddenly dropped…

They saw Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile with guitars in their hands… busking! Not surprising, numerous passers-by stopped to watch this unexplained phenomenon and filmed the renowned musicians with their phones.

In this first video below you’ll see Grohl acoustically playing the Foo Fighters’ ‘Times Like These’ off their 2002′ album, One by One.

In the second one, Grohl joined forces with Carlile (on vocals) to perform The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’. At let us tell you, their duet sounded really prepared and soulful. You can enjoy the footage below.

Apparently, Pike Place Market in Seattle wasn’t a random choice of location for busking. As Carlile explained in the video, it was “right where it all started so many years ago” (via Loudwire). The busking video was streamed on Facebook Live, making hundreds of fans extremely jealous of those who witnessed Grohl in Seattle.

Carlile was excited to share her photos with Grohl on Instagram. The first one you see was taken at her house, where Grohl reportedly came for dinner. “I love it when Dave Grohl comes over for dinner and ATVs”, she wrote. “You sir are welcome to live with me… please.” In another post, Carlile shared a pic of the busking experience just outside Pike Place Market, and wrote it was “one of the most surreal moments” of her life.

THE DRIVER ERA unveil behind-the-scenes tour life in new video ‘Fell You Now’

The Driver Era Feel You Now

The genre-breaking Lynch brothers are unafraid to expose all sorts of tour moments

April 17, 2019

The musically unconventional LA-based duo The Driver Era, consisting of brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch, shared really gripping behind-the-scenes video ‘Feel You Now’ filmed during their recent (and favorite) tour. You can feel what their life is like on tour (and it’s hell of a lot of fun).

In ‘Feel You Now’ video, the brothers are not leaving much under the veil, so get ready to see their naked body parts and how they play jokes on each other on the road. The band recruited their 16-year-old cousin Gordy Destjeor to film their behind-the-scenes footage and put together this captivating music video.

For The Driver Era this tour has become their favorite. “This is our favorite tour we’ve been on,” Ross Lynch said in an interview with Alternative Press. “We really love the music we’re making together, and it seems like the fans are loving it too. We have a lot of songs that are cocked and loaded. Now it’s just time to get them out.”

It’s common to refer to The Driver Era’s music as genre-defying or “genreless”. Why? Just compare the band’s latest singles: ‘Preacher Man,’ ‘Afterglow’ and ‘Low’, and try to fit the newest song ‘Feel You Now’ into this frame. The Lynch brothers can’t help experimenting with genres and their comfort zone:

“So far, every song we’ve released seems to fit into a different genre than the one we released before it,” says Rocky. “It branches into that electronic-pop, and then two minutes in, it washes into this Beatles-esque thing. It just keeps everything fresh. You don’t know what you’re going to get when you’re on our Spotify page, and we really like that.”

Do you like The Driver Era guys for their stylistic diversity and unpredictability? Get ready for even more surprises, because according to W Magazine, a few new tracks are still on the way. The upcoming works are inspired by Ross’ thoughts and reflections on existentiality.

Be sure to see the new music video for ‘Feel You Now’ below!

In the meantime, check out the band’s recent tattoo experience. Ross gave Rocky a tattoo in New York, looking pretty professional all the way. Inked Magazine rushed to witness and record the exciting tattoo-making procedure.

ALL TIME LOW are “gonna be ready to go again” by next year

All Time Low band 2015

But what kind of “ultimate betrayal” is All Time Low’s guitarist talking about?

April 15, 2019

The last thing we heard till now from All Time Low was when the band decided to go on a break, explaining: “We need to figure out what’s next and what All Time Low should be doing going forward.” Then, in January, frontman Alex Gaskarth took us by surprise with a sudden announcement of a new project, Simple Creatures, with blink-182’s mastermind Mark Hoppus. But it’s not long to wait for ATL’s new music and tour!

Over the weekend, All Time Low singer Alex Gaskarth performed with DJ Kayzo for the debut of their collaboration, ‘Up In Flames’. That’s when Gaskarth and guitarist Jack Barakat recorded an interview with KROQ to give fans some timeline when we can expect new ATL material.

And just like it always is with ATL, the interview was so much fun. Especially when Barakat expressed his indignation over blink-182’s Mark Hoppus stealing their vocalist:

“For those who don’t know, Mark Hoppus stole my lead singer,” laughed Barakat referring to Simple Creatures. “Mark Hoppus was an idol of ours, well of mine, I grew up idolizing him and he turned his back on me. The ultimate betrayal.”

But when it comes to serious matters, like, can we hope for new music from All Time Low in the observable future, Gaskarth confirmed it without hesitation: “Absolutely”, he said. “Our plan is we’re taking a little break. I think hopefully by next year we’re gonna be ready to go again.”

All Time Low’s guitarist is also not idle, while his bandmate is writing and recording with blink-182 singer. “Alex is doing Simple Creatures, I’m working on a little somethin’, somethin’.” What he means by “little somethin’, somethin’” no one knows yet, but let’s wait and see.

Watch the full interview with KROQ below and tell us if you’re content with Simple Creatures’ music or can’t wait for the “stolen” Gaskarth to be back with All Time Low crew.
