FRANK IERO shares music video for his MCR-referencing song ‘Young And Doomed’

Frank Iero And the Future Violents Young And Doomed

Now we know what Frank Iero’s version of ‘I’m Not Okay’ sounds like

March 21, 2019

Frank Iero And the Future Violents have dropped a really emo/punk-driven music video for ‘Young And Doomed’. The song, which has clear references to My Chemical Romance, is the debut single from their upcoming album, Barriers.

Besides Frank Iero himself, in the video you’ll see his friend Evan Nestor, former Murder By Death bassist Matt Armstrong, multi-instrumentalist Kayleigh Goldsworthy from Dave Hause And The Mermaid and drummer Tucker Rule from Thursday.

Directed by Steve Pedulla, the video is full of no-mercy blinking colors and the intense expressiveness of emo era – just when you thought emo-rock is gone for good.

And Iero doesn’t deny both musical and lyrical references at My Chemical Romance’s legacy. For one, he shared the lyrics to the song on Instagram, where fans quickly spotted the line: “I’m not okay… oh wait, that’s the other guy.” Needless to day, ex-MCR fans immediately saw its link to the band’s ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise).’

Watch the video for ‘Young And Doomed’ below and tell us in the comments if you feel the influence of My Chemical Romance in it too. And stay tuned for Frank Iero’s new album Barriers coming out May 31 via UNFD (preorder it here).

PANIC! AT THE DISCO share ‘Dancing’s Not A Crime’ video, again with Urie’s puppet

Panic at the Disco Dancing's not a crime

The Amazing Beebo puppet has recently become Panic! At The Disco’s signature rep

March 18, 2019

Panic! At The Disco have released the music video for ‘Dancing’s Not A Crime’, a song from the band’s latest album Pray For The Wicked. And much like Fall Out Boy include their llama on and off in their music videos, Brendon Urie seems to have a strong bond with his puppet version, the so-called Amazing Beebo.

Beebo made his first appearance in the music video ‘Hey Look Ma, I Made It’, and since then has established hiself as a “sex, drugs and rock’n’roll” cliche star. This time, we see the doll Urie at concert venues, being a company man and hanging out with fans at Panic! At The Disco shows.

But Beebo character put aside, the video for ‘Dancing’s Not A Crime’ will delight fans with plenty of live moments captured on the band’s recent Pray For The Wicked tour.

As AltPress has pointed out, you’re in for quite a surprising ending to the music video. That’s when we find Brendon Urie suddenly shouting at the puppet: “Security just told me they found you in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet, puking your brains out. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Be sure to watch the newest video for ‘Dancing’s Not A Crime’ below.

Watch: Brendon Urie surprises with metal PANIC! AT THE DISCO version of ‘The Calendar’

In the meantime, Panic! At The Disco are picking music awards from the start of 2019 like mushrooms in the forest after the rain. Most recently Brendon Urie & Co. got two awards at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards. And we’re talking not secondary awards, but Alternative Rock Album of the Year and Alternative Rock Song for ‘High Hopes’.

Catch Panic! At The Disco on their European tour this spring. Check out the upcoming dates below.

Panic! At The Disco Tour Dates 2019:

03/18 — Amsterdam, Netherlands @ AFAS Live
03/19 — Paris, France @ Zenith

PALAYE ROYALE share experience of car ride with the worst Uber driver

“I’m on to you Mr. Uber Man”, wrote Palaye Royale guitarist Sebastian Danzig while on the road

March 15, 2019

We can all relate to this, as once in a while we end up in a cab with some weird driver of Uber, Taxify or Yandex taxi, just hoping for the ride to finish as soon as possible. When you’re a musician, that might easily result in even less rapport between you and the driver. Like in Palaye Royale’s case…

Guitarist Sebastian Danzig of the Canadian indie/art-rock band, which takes its name after Palaye Royale dance hall in Toronto, decided to live-chat his experience throughout the whole journey, and it’s ridiculous what driver you can encounter.

Watch: ANDY BLACK says he is the “ghost of Ohio” in new unhurried, philosophical music video

Danzig took to Twitter to tell how he ordered an Uber for a two hour drive through Arizona. To begin with, the driver refused to turn on the air conditioning. But that was just the tip of the upcoming iceberg… Read Palate Royale guitarist’s tweets below.

THE PRODIGY frontman Keith Flint’s cause of death officially confirmed

The Prodigy Keith Flint

Flint was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday, March 4

March 11, 2019

Music fans who grew up on viral tunes of The Prodigy still cannot grasp the heartbreaking news that the legendary band’s frontman died last Monday. Keith Flint passed away at the age of 49 on the morning of March 4. The coroner has just confirmed the cause of death.

The Prodigy frontman took his own life: the coroner in Essex, England has now officially confirmed it was suicide by hanging, as BBC reports. The toxicology reports are to come in later. However, it is clear that the cause of death is transparent and doesn’t give any room for suspicions.

Here is what the Essex Police spokesperson told NME when contacted after attending Flint’s home on Monday morning around 8 a.m. of March 4:

“We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Brook Hill, North End, just after 8:10 a.m. on Monday, March 4,” the spokesperson reported. “We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”

Flint’s bandmates from The Prodigy, Liam Howlett and Maxim Reality, published the following statement, following the musician’s death:

“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time” (via AltPress).

The band also took to Instagram to confirme the cause of death:

“The news is true , I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell shocked , fuckin angry , confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brother Liam #theprodigy”

ANDY BLACK says he is “ghost of Ohio” in new unhurried, philosophical music video

Andy Black Ghost of Ohio

The singer of Black Veil Brides, a.k.a. Andy Black, has unveiled the video for the second single from his new album

March 8, 2019

You might be wondering, which Ghost Of Ohio we’re going to talk about. Because The Ghost Of Ohio now means three works by Andy Biersack: his graphic novel, the upcoming album or the single from it, all carrying the same name. Today in the limelight is the song from the new album, now with its own music video. The clip is filled with gloomy, grey landscapes of… Ohio, as you might have guessed. But why gloomy and grey?

The song is very personal to the singer, reflecting his life, childhood and accompanying issues of being different and not accepted by his surroundings. The song is part of the second solo album from Andy Black. It’s due for release parallel with The Ghost Of Ohio graphic novel.

Just like we expected, the video for ‘Ghost Of Ohio’ is a philosophical one, with a bit of industrial flavour, as Black wanders along the rails under the lyrically grey Ohio sky, contemplating on his life and mission in life. But the clip is not all that grey. Its highlighted view of the bridge at night make it romantic and even touristy. Is your next travelling destination Ohio, intrigued Biersack’s fans?

Watch the thought-provoking music video for ‘Ghost Of Ohio’ below.

More: 20 Fun Facts about Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides

Following the path of Biersack himself, the ghost in his graphic novel grew up in a small town, feeling like an outsider and not being accepted by the rest. However, the ghost in the comic gets accused of a crime he did not commit and sentenced to death. Now that’s a twist.

“I think I had an overall emotional renaissance when it came to doing this [project],” Biersack opened up to AltPress on making of The Ghost Of Ohio album and book. “You’re not part of a gang of people who think, ‘Who cares what anybody else says? It’s us against the world.’ Which is great, but when you’re in a position when you’ve done that through your teenage years and into your adult life, you inherently close yourself off to the human condition.”

The Ghost Of Ohio album and graphic novel are both available for preorders. You can get physical copies at this location. But first share your reaction and thoughts on Biersack’s new single and video. Did they live up to your expectations? Shall Andy continue in this comic-inspired direction?

SLIPKNOT stop teasing, make two announcements: Knotfest Roadshow + new album

Slipknot tour live

At the end of the countdown Slipknot have given fans even more than they hoped for…

March 5, 2019

The masked musicians had been keeping us all in suspense. A few days ago they had even launched a new website www.wearenotyourkind.com, referencing the single they released at the end of last year. The website mysteriously directed fans from laptops to their mobile, just to show the date 8.9.2019 with no further cues. Most fans suspected it would be the release date of the new album.

And they were right. But Slipknot fans got more that they thought they would get. They received two major announcements at once.

News #1 is, yes, August 9 is exactly the day the band’s new studio album will be released. Corey Taylor and his masked mates haven’t given any further details yet. All we know by now is that the album is expected to feature All Out Life, as been revealed last Halloween.

And news #2 is that American fans will see Slipknot on tour this summer: the band is heading on the Knotfest Roadshow. They will be accompanied on the road by with Gojira, Behemoth and Volbeat. The rockers will play in 29 locations and they promise to deliver “a mind-altering collision of music, art and culture.”

The Roadshow will take off at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, on July 26. You can watch the festival’s heavy teaser below. Tickets will go on general sale on Friday, March 8. And if you head to Knotfest, there’s even a bigger treat. With every pair of tickets purchased online, fans will get a digital copy of the new Slipknot album!

We are really excited about the upcoming release, though some fans actually craved for at least a new single to be out already by the end of the teaser countdown (see a Slipknot fan’s post on VK below). But with more album details to be published soon, the band’s first album single might be just around the corner…

LIMP BIZKIT will play in original lineup for a shocking $3 per ticket

Limp Bizkit Live in Concert

As you can imagine, the “Three Dollar Show, Y’all” sold out immediately

March 5, 2019

We wish all rockers would once in a while launch ticket sale for only $3, like Limp Bizkit have just did with their upcoming Los Angeles show. And the best part is that this Tuesday concert will see the band in their original lineup! The gig went on sale on Friday and got sold out “in the flashiest of flashes”. Wouldn’t you rush to get a 3-euro ticket?

The “Three Dollar Show, Y’all” will take place at Troubadour in West Hollywood and is titled so because after Limp Bizkit’s debut album, Three Dollar Bill, Y’all$. Released back in July 1997, the record was nothing similar to what the band is putting out in 2000s. By the way, the album also featured a cover of George Michael’s ‘Faith’, which, according to guitarist Wes Borland, led to Michael’s disapproval of Limp Bizkit, who “hates us for doing it”.

The upcoming $3-show will see the original lineup in the face of Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, DJ Lethal, and John Otto. In addition to this exciting update, Limp Bizkit are apparently working on their sixth album, with their latest release to date being 2011’s Gold Cobra (via Loudwire).

“Getting warmed up to actually make a brand new @limpbizkitalbum,” Durst wrote on Instagram. “We would have started last Saturday but were displaced by the fires and lost some gear. Getting back on our feet and in the studio within the week.”

What the singer is talking about is a destructive wildfire season reigning in California. Durst’s SoCal home got into flames earlier this week, while Borland lost a few musical equipments in the fire. Well, if this $3-show can embrace thousands of fans, the musician will probably easily buy new gear afterwards…

What do you think of the Limp Bizkit $3-show idea? You know we want to know everything. Share your thoughts in the comments, and join Alterock Facebook and Twitter to stay tuned for rock and metal news.

Watch official Aquarela trailer with immersive music score by APOCALYPTICA’s Eicca Toppinen

Apocalyptica Eicca Toppinen Aquarela Victor Kossakovsky

“When the icebergs are moving and crashing… it’s not just beautiful, it’s really really f–ing brutal”, says Apocalyptica’s cellist

March 2, 2019

Apocalyptica’s Eicca Toppinen has recently written the music score to the visually arresting film Aquarela, coming to big screens soon. Directed by film artist Victor Kossakovsky, the picture pays tribute to water in all its forms and moods, with footage of unprecedented quality. The film was shot across several continents: Greenland, Venezuela, Siberia’s Lake Baikal and the waters of the Atlantic.

But how come the director chose the powerful metal cello of Apocalyptica to be the voice of the rough ocean sequences? Well, it took Kossakovsky a lot of time and determination to arrive to this decision. Before the poetic director turned Toppinen, he listened to 272 UK composers in his search for the right soundtrack.

“Every time we were filming something, my team were screaming ‘woah, heavy metal! That was heavy metal,” explains Kossakovsky, who then flew to Toppinen’s home in Helsinki to convince him to try and record music for the epic picture. “It was a shock, at first. No-one believed it. Eicca was immediately reacting to my ideas.”

More: Watch our video interview with Apocalyptica at Pirita Convent in Tallinn

The Aquarela director and the cellist were on the same page from the start. Toppinen told The 730 Review he felt the director’s music vision:

“I kind of understood what he’s looking for. The pictures can be very beautiful, the movie can be seen in two ways. It’s breathtaking, beautiful stuff, but Victor’s point is to show the power, the energy of water, of nature. It needs to be rough and brutal, the same way he sees the water.

I like to write music that has a lot of brutal energy, but also an uplifting beauty. It’s not just dirty. I think that’s why Victor wanted me to do it. Many of the previous ones were a bit too sentimental. He doesn’t want to have a National Geographic nature movie. When the icebergs are moving and crashing, for instance, these huge pieces of ice, it’s not just beautiful, it’s really really f–ing brutal.”

Be sure to watch how glaciers, icebergs, mountainous waves and waterfalls become even more powerful to Apocalyptica’s cello sounds in the official trailer, which just came out:

Aquarela is coming to screens soon, with reviews being as picturesque as the film itself. “The latest ravishing visual feast from Victor Kossakovsky, Russia’s most poetic formalist filmmaker at the moment, Aquarela takes a deep dive into watery realms around the world, offering up an experience that can truly be described as immersive,” writes Leslie Felperin, a film critic of Hollywood Reporter.

More: Tweet of the Day – Apocalyptica are going down!

In the meantime, Apocalyptica has just finished a world tour and is gearing up to start working on their next album. On February 8, the band finally released ‘Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos – A Live Performance’ on Vinyl and DVD. One of the performances from it, ‘The Unforgiven’, also premiered on YouTube (see it below). The concert was recorded at the beautiful medieval Olavinlinna Castle, Savonlinna last summer.

Later this spring, May 6-31, Apocalyptica guys are heading on a US tour, followed by Finland’s summer festivals, as well as a few August dates booked in Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

NEW YEARS DAY share mesmerizing teaser, promise catchy vocals and “ugly riffs”

Ash Costello is stating: “Nothing could stop us… New music is coming”

February 28, 2019

It’s just about time. New Years Day’s latest album to date came out in 2015, followed by only one single, ‘Skeletons’, last November.

Ash Costello & Co. have always been enthusiasts of social media when it comes to keeping their fans updated. But then, why not tease fans a bit before releasing highly anticipated new music?

The teasing started on February 27, when Costello added a new audio snippet to her personal Instagram with the caption “⛓3️⃣⛓ after all we’ve been thru… New music is coming.” (What a dramatic start!) See the post below:

And just a few hours ago another Instagram update arrived, assuring fans 100% that they’re about to hear some new material: “Nothing could stop us… New music is coming,” hints the singer.

The fragment we can hear in Instagram and Twitter of New Years Day saw fans wondering in the comments whether the band has entirely changed their music direction in favor of pop tunes. Here is what replied: “Wait and see. This record is a mix of catchy vocals and the most butthole-melting, ugly riffs you’ve ever heard from us.”

Since new music (and probably a whole album) is coming soon, it makes sense to catch the band live this spring and hear the new songs played live. New Years Day are currently gearing up to hit the road in April as support on Falling In Reverse’s headlining tour.

New Years Day’s last studio album, titled Malevolence, dropped in 2015.
